W&J takes two from Wolverines

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon by dropping both ends of a doubleheader with defending PAC champion Washington & Jefferson at College Field. W&J earned a 13-1, 5-inning win in the opener. In Game Two, W&J pulled out a 5-2 decision over Grove City (3-8, 0-2 PAC).

W&J pitcher Rebecca Nachreiner tossed a no-hitter against Grove City in the opener. Freshman DH Cassie Narbe (Orchard Park, N.Y./Christian Central) scored Grove City's lone run after being hit by a pitch and eventually crossing home on an error.

In the nightcap, Grove City pounded out a dozen hits but left 10 runners on base. Senior second baseman Andrea Settle (Pylesville, Md./Harford Christian) went 3 for 4. Sophomore right fielder Rachael Risbon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) and sophomore shortstop Amy Fisher (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) both collected a pair of hits. Fisher and junior catcher Abby Greiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) both drove in runs.

Senior Lauren Carlson (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) tossed a complete game in Game Two but took the defeat. Carlson allowed five runs in six innings. Carlson also started the opener and pitched into the third inning, allowing six earned runs. Fisher pitched the final three innings, surrendering five earned runs.

Grove City will host Geneva Monday at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader at College Field.
