Grove City wins third straight

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team earned its third straight victory Wednesday afternoon, pulling out a 2-1 win over visiting Saint Vincent in a makeup game at College Field.

Grove City (6-14) broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth as senior left fielder Kristy Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) singled and eventually scored on a single by sophomore second baseman Rachael Risbon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum). Freshman third baseman Laura Miller (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) scored on a subsequent error, extending the lead to 2-0.

Risbon went 3 for 3 while Bogusz singled twice in the win.

Saint Vincent scored once in the top of the sixth but Grove City sophomore pitcher Amy Fisher (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) worked out of the bases-loaded jam. Fisher earned the victory by allowing no earned runs and seven hits in her seven innings. Fisher improved to 3-5.

Saint Vincent (6-9) stranded 11 runners on base, including eight in scoring position.

The teams played the first half of a doubleheader at Saint Vincent March 27 but could not begin the second game due to inclement weather. As per Presidents' Athletic Conference rainout guidelines, the second game was held in Grove City. Saint Vincent won the first game 11-9. The two games do not count in the PAC standings due to Saint Vincent's provisional status in NCAA Division III.

Grove City will host Penn State Behrend Thursday in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
