Grove City earns split at La Roche
PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College softball team split a non-conference doubleheader at La Roche Thursday afternoon. Grove City dropped a 4-1 decision in the opener but rebounded for a 16-5, 6-inning victory in Game Two. The 16 runs are a season-high for Grove City.
In the nightcap, junior shortstop Amy Fisher (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) drove in a career-high seven runs while smacking two triples and a pair of doubles. Five other Grove City players also posted multi-hit games in Game Two.
Senior catcher Abby Greiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) homered and drove in four runs as part of a 3-for-5 outing while freshman center fielder Brittany Young (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) cracked three singles.
Freshman Lauren Pennell (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) doubled and singled while freshman second baseman Christine Slater (Aliquippa, Pa./Center) and sophomore outfielder Jessica Hodge (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) each singled twice.
Freshman pitcher Kim Guyaux (Monaca, Pa./Center) tossed a complete game to earn her second win of the season.
Greiner doubled and singled in the opener for Grove City (3-11) while Fisher drove in the Wolverines' lone run. Pennell allowed four runs in five innings in the circle. Guyaux pitched the sixth.
Grove City will host Waynesburg Saturday at 1 p.m. in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader.
