Wolverines fall at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team fell to 2-6 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Saturday afternoon as the Wolverines dropped both ends of a PAC doubleheader at Westminster. Westminster (14-7, 3-3 PAC) earned a 5-2 win in the opener and then completed the sweep with a 10-0, 5-inning victory in the nightcap.

In the opener, Grove City trailed 5-0 in the sixth inning but closed to within 5-2 as senior catcher Abby Greiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) roped a two-run single that scored junior second baseman Amy Fisher (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) and freshman Lauren Pennell (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley). Fisher opened the inning with a double.

Freshman pitcher Kim Guyaux (Monaca, Pa./Center) took the defeat for Grove City after allowing five earned runs in six innings.

Greiner and junior Rachael Risbon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum) both singled in the nightcap, accounting for Grove City's two hits. Pennell pitched 3 2/3 innings and yielded six earned runs. Guyaux tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief. Westminster broke the game open with five runs in the fourth.

Grove City (6-16 overall) will visit Geneva Monday afternoon at 3 p.m.
