Geneva takes two from Grove City

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Presidents' Athletic Conference member Geneva Monday afternoon. Geneva, which is a provisional member of NCAA Division III but plays a full PAC schedule, won both games by a 5-1 score.

In the opener, Grove City broke through in the seventh as senior catcher Abby Greiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) doubled and scored on a single from sophomore outfielder Jessica Hodge (Grove City, Pa./Grove City). Hodge went 2 for 3 in Game One.

Freshman pitcher Kim Guyaux (Monaca, Pa./Center) allowed five earned runs in six innings and took the setback for Grove City (6-18 overall).

Grove City also fell behind 5-0 in the second game. However, Grove City broke through in the fourth inning as freshman pitcher Lauren Pennell (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) doubled and then scored on a Greiner single. Greiner went 2 for 2 in the nightcap and now has 13 hits in her last 22 at-bats.

Pennell allowed four earned runs in seven innings in the circle.

Grove City will visit Bethany Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m. in PAC action.
