Bethany pulls out pair against Wolverines

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped a pair of two-run decisions to host Bethany Wednesday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader at Bethany Field. Bethany (13-13, 7-1 PAC) won the opener, 2-0, then pulled out a 3-1 victory over Grove City in the nightcap.

Bethany scored single runs in the third and fourth inning of Game One to take a 2-0 lead. Bethany pitcher Heather Immesberger limited Grove City to just three hits in the opener.

For the Wolverines, freshman pitcher Lauren Pennell (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) yielded two runs in six innings but absorbed the defeat.

In the nightcap, Bethany scored three runs in the top of the seventh to erase Grove City's 1-0 lead. Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the first inning as freshman center fielder Brittany Young (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro) singled and eventually scored on a Pennell groundout.

Senior catcher Abby Greiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and senior first baseman Kelley Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) both went 2-for-2 in Game Two. Freshman pitcher Kim Guyaux (Monaca, Pa./Center) allowed one earned run in seven innings in the circle for Grove City (6-20, 2-8 PAC).
