Grove City drops two

SALISBURY, Md. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday morning at the Salisbury Invitational. Grove City opened the day with a 14-1 setback against Capital. The Wolverines then fell to host Salisbury 8-0 in Saturday's second game.

In the opener, freshman catcher Sarah Morris (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) paced the Wolverines by doubling and scoring in the second inning. Senior left fielder Grace Murtoff (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs) drove in Morris with a groundout.

Junior pitcher Faith Jentsch (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) started and took the defeat for Grove City. She allowed five earned runs in 1 1/3 innings. Freshman Caitlin Vidovic (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Lutheran West) and junior Lauren Clarke (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) both pitched in relief.

Capital took control of the game by scoring eight runs in the first and five more in the second inning.

Clarke tossed a complete game against Salisbury, striking out five in seven innings. She yielded six earned runs and took the setback.

Jentsch, freshman third baseman Allison Rayburn (New Kensington, Pa./Valley) and freshman shortstop Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) all singled.

Grove City (2-8) will visit Pitt-Greensburg Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.
