GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team concluded the 2012 season Monday afternoon by splitting a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader with league-leading Saint Vincent at College Field. Grove City (19-21, 7-11 PAC) won the opener 3-0 but Saint Vincent secured a 4-2 victory in Game Two.

In the opener, junior pitcher Faith Jentsch (Orchard Park, N.Y./Orchard Park) fired a six-hit shutout and earned her 10th win of the season. Jentsch struck out four in seven innings.

Grove City scored all three of its Game One runs in the second inning. Freshman DP Erica Gmuer (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) singled in senior left fielder Grace Murtoff (Carlisle, Pa./Boiling Springs), putting the Wolverines ahead. Gmuer and senior right fielder Allison Eastham (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek) then scored on a two-run double by senior center fielder Elizabeth Covatto (Beaver, Pa./Beaver).

Grove City fell behind 3-0 in the nightcap but trimmed the lead to 3-2 in the third as freshman shortstop Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) singled in Covatto and junior pitcher Lauren Clarke (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell). Grove City had just three hits in Game Two.

Clarke pitched a complete game for Grove City, allowing three earned runs in six innings. She struck out five.
