Grove City drops pair at Thomas More

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. -- The Grove City College softball team struggled offensively for the second-straight series, managing just six total hits in a pair of losses at Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thomas More on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines (4-11, 0-4 PAC) fell 5-0 in game one before losing the second game, 3-1.

In the first game, Thomas More (13-6, 2-0) scored five runs in the bottom of the second and held Grove City to just a pair of hits to earn the 5-0 victory.

Sophomore Megan Lynskey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and junior Caitlyn Vidovic (North Ridgeville, Ohio/Lutheran West) each had a single for the Wolverines in the fifth and sixth innings, respectively.

Freshman Katie Watts (Sandy Lake, Pa./Lakeview) took the loss on the mound, allowing five runs on eight hits in four innings of action. Freshman Aimee Wootton (Weiser, Idaho/Weiser) pitched two scoreless innings of relief.

It was the Wolverines who struck first in game two, taking advantage of a Saints' error to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. After junior Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) reached on an error and advanced to second on a passed ball, freshman Erika Aughton (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) hit a RBI-single to score Shirey.

Grove City's lead was short-lived, as Thomas More evened the score in the top of the fifth and scored two runs in the top of the six to take a 3-1 lead before holding on for the win.

Shirey, Lynskey and freshman Katy Gibson (Carnegie, Pa./Chartiers Valley) each added singles for the Wolverines. Aughton took the loss on the mound despite allowing just four hits and three runs (two earned) while pitching a complete game.

The Wolverines are scheduled to host Saint Vincent in their home opening doubleheader on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
