Shirey, Aughton named All-PAC

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team's junior shortstop Kelsey Shirey (Macedonia, Ohio/Nordonia) and freshman pitcher/first baseman Erika Aughton (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) were named to the All-Presidents' Athletic Conference softball teams as selected by the league's head coaches.

Shirey earned her third-straight all-conference citation by being selected to the second team while Aughton was an honorable mention selection. Honorees were announced by the conference office on Tuesday afternoon.

Shirey led the team and the PAC in batting average (.468), slugging percentage (.727) and triples (5) while ranking second in the conference with a team-best .518 on-base percentage. She also ranked second on the team in runs scored (18) and runs batted in (14) while recording a team-best 12 multi-hit games.

Her slugging mark is the second-best single-season mark in Grove City history while both her batting average and on-base percentage rank third in the Wolverine single-season annals.

Aughton ranked fifth in the PAC and led the Wolverines with a 2.22 ERA, the best mark by a Grove City starting pitcher since Kim Guyaux's 2.04 ERA during the 2008 season. She also posted a 6-9 record, a .261 opponents' batting average, and 47 strikeouts versus just 17 walks in 104.2 innings.

Aughton made 18 appearances on the mound, starting 15 games and throwing complete games in 13 of those. She closed the season by winning five of her final six starts, combining for a shutout win against Franciscan on April 21 and throwing her first career complete-game shutout against Chatham on May 1.

The Wolverines concluded the 2014 season with a 12-21 overall record and a 6-12 record in the PAC.
