Grove City falls to Saint Vincent

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team opened Presidents' Athletic Conference play Wednesday by dropping both ends of a home doubleheader with Saint Vincent (15-7, 3-1) at College Field. Saint Vincent won the opener 6-2 and then secured a 5-1 win in the second game.

In Game Two, Saint Vincent led 1-0 entering the seventh and then added four unearned runs to sew up the win. Grove City broke through in the bottom of the seventh when senior left fielder Megan Lynskey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) singled in sophomore shortstop Breanna Lent (Pittsburgh, Pa./Hampton).

Junior pitcher Aimee Wootton (Weiser, Idaho/Weiser) allowed one earned run in seven innings but took the setback. She permitted eight hits and struck out three.

Lynskey also doubled in Grove City's first run in the opener as her seventh-inning double scored junior catcher Alaina Kunselman (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Valley). Lynskey went 2 for 3, as did Lent. Lent scored Grove City's second run on an error. Junior third baseman Casey Woodcock (Durhamville, N.Y./Oneida) also recorded two hits.

Junior pitcher Erika Aughton (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) started and allowed six earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. She took the defeat. Wootton threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out three.

Grove City (2-8, 0-2 PAC) will visit Mount Aloysius in non-conference play Thursday at 3 p.m. in Cresson, Pa.
