Grove City earns road win
CRESSON, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team earned its first road win of the 2016 season Thursday afternoon by securing a 5-0, rain-shortened victory at Mount Aloysius in non-conference play. Rain limited the first game to five innings and then prevented the second game from being played.
Junior pitcher Erika Aughton (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) fired a four-hit shutout for Grove City, striking out four in five innings.
Offensively, Aughton and freshman third baseman Julia Buggey (Indiana, Pa./Homer-Center) both doubled and singled for Grove City. Aughton doubled in Grove City's first run in the first inning as she drove in junior center fielder Madison Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite).
The Wolverines then broke open the game with four runs in the third inning. Senior left fielder Megan Lynskey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) pushed the lead to 2-0 by singling in Brubaker. Junior catcher Alaina Kunselman (New Bethlehem, Pa./Redbank Valley) then doubled in Lynskey and Aughton. Buggey's doubled scored Kunselman.
Grove City (3-8 overall) returns to Presidents' Athletic Conference play Friday afternoon by visiting Thiel. The doubleheader will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Greenville.
