Grove City falls at W&J

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped both ends of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon to host Washington & Jefferson at Brooks Park. W&J won the opener 8-0, then secured a 9-1 win in Game Two.

Grove City broke through in the fifth inning of the nightcap when junior pitcher Aimee Wootton (Weiser, Idaho/Weiser) doubled in sophomore shortstop Michaela Cashmer (Weedville, Pa./Elk County Catholic). Cashmer had singled with two outs.

Wootton allowed four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings and took the setback. Junior Erika Aughton (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) recorded the final out of the fourth inning.

In Game One, four Grove City errors led to eight unearned runs for W&J. Aughton pitched 5 2/3 innings and struck out three without walking a batter. Senior left fielder Megan Lynskey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and sophomore third baseman Breanna Lent (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) both singled for the Wolverines.

Grove City will visit conference foe Bethany for a doubleheader Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
