Westminster tops Grove City

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College softball team dropped both ends of a Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at conference leader Westminster (23-11, 16-0 PAC). Westminster won the opener 15-0 and then prevailed 4-0 in the second game.

In the nightcap, junior pitcher Erika Aughton (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) allowed two earned runs and six hits over six innings for the Wolverines. Offensively, sophomore shortstop Breanna Lent (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) and senior right fielder Emily Rothbard (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) both collected singles.

Westminster scored six times in the bottom of the first of Game One and sewed up the win with another six-run outburst in the fourth inning. Rothbard, senior left fielder Megan Lynskey (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) and junior center fielder Madison Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) all singled for Grove City.

Junior pitcher Aimee Wootton (Weiser, Idaho/Weiser) started and pitched three innings for Grove City. Aughton threw a scoreless fourth in relief.

Grove City will visit Allegheny in non-conference play Thursday afternoon at 3:30 in Meadville. The Wolverines will then close the 2016 regular season Saturday at home against conference foe Chatham.
