BEREA, OH, September 8, 2000--The Grove City College women's volleyball team
recovered from Tuesday's opening night loss at Mount Union with a pair of
victories in first-day action at Baldwin Wallace College's Third Annual Marcia
French Memorial Tournament.
The Lady Wolverines needed just three games to defeat Wilmington College in the first match, 15-6, 16-14, 15-6. Junior Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) led the way with 11 kills and 18 digs. Freshman Lisa Bodi (Springville, NY/Springville Griffith Institute) added eight kills, while sophomore Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) posted 27 assists and junior Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) had 14 digs.
Grove City followed with a four-game win over Case Western Reserve University, 15-13, 8-15, 15-12, 16-14. Porter registered 15 kills and 25 digs, while Gardner tallied 13 kills. Denniston recorded 52 assists and Heather Hayden (Meadville, PA/Meadville) contributed 20 digs and four blocked shots.
