Grove City suffers major loss in win

GROVE CITY, PA, October 10, 2000--The Lady Wolverine volleyball team improved to 5-0 in conference play Tuesday night, but the mood afterward was less than celebratory.

Junior Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland), one of the nation's leaders in digs, suffered a knee injury in the first game of a three-game sweep over visiting Bethany.  The injury, which occurred on a landing off a spike, may force the PAC first team all-star to miss the rest of the season.

Junior Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) picked up the slack and posted a team-high 13 kills and nine digs.  Sophomore Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) recorded eight blocks and sophomore Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) finished with 35 assists.

Grove City boosted its overall record to 14-8 with the 15-4, 15-3, 15-10 victory.  Bethany dropped to 9-12 overall and 1-4 in the PAC.
