Grove City dealt first league loss in five

WASHINGTON, PA, October 12, 2000--The Lady Wolverine volleyball team suffered its first conference setback Thursday as host Washington & Jefferson prevailed in five games, 15-12, 11-15, 13-15, 15-12, 15-10.

Grove City dropped to 5-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference, 14-9 overall.  W&J evened its league record at 3-3 and moved to 7-18 overall.

Junior Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) paced the Lady Wolverines with 20 kills and 17 digs.  Sophomore Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) posted 14 kills and five blocks, while sophomore Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) contributed 54 assists.

Earlier in the day, the Lady Wolverines received word that junior Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) would miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL suffered in Tuesday night's sweep over Bethany.  Porter, a 1999 PAC first-team pick, ranked among the nation's leaders in digs and was second on the team in kills.

Grove City defeated the four-time defending PAC champion Presidents in three games on September 26, 15-9, 15-10, 15-4.
