GCC captures number one seed
GROVE CITY, PA, October 24, 2000--The Lady Wolverine volleyball team dealt visiting
Waynesburg a 3-1 defeat Tuesday and secured the top seed at this weekend's 2000
Presidents' Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament in Bethany, WV.
Grove City improved to 17-11 overall and 7-1 in the PAC, winning 15-8, 15-5, 11-15, 15-1. Waynesburg dropped to 21-13 overall, 5-3 in the league.
Junior Casey Engelbert (Warren, PA/Warren County Christian) and sophomore Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) led the way with 14 and 13 kills, respectively. Summers added four of the team's nine aces on the night, while sophomore Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) recorded 42 assists.
The Lady Wolverines will open the tournament Saturday at noon in the semifinals against the winner of Wednesday's Bethany-Thiel match. The championship match is slated for Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
Grove City concludes its regular-season slate Wednesday at home against Division II rival Slippery Rock.
