GCC women's volleyball team
falls in ECAC semis
PITTSBURGH, PA, November 11, 2000--The Grove
City College women's volleyball team had its season end in the semi-final round
of the ECAC Southern Championship Tournament on Saturday as host and top-seeded
Carnegie Mellon prevailed in three games, 15-3, 15-8, 15-3.
Sophomore Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) posted a team-high six kills for the Lady Wolverines, who advanced to the semis with a 3-2 win over Western Maryland on Friday. Sophomore Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) had 14 assists, while sophomore Heather Hayden (Meadville, PA/Meadville) contributed nine digs.
The 2000 Presidents' Athletic Conference champions, who return all six starters next year, finished the season with an overall record of 20-13 -- their first 20-win campaign since going 22-10 in 1996.
Grove City had appeared in the ECAC
playoffs three times previously, winning titles in 1994 and 1995 and losing in
the semifinals in '96.
