Grove City goes 1-1 at B-W tourney

BEREA, OH, September 7, 2001--The Lady Wolverine volleyball team found itself on the winning and losing end of three-game sweeps Friday in first-day action at the Baldwin-Wallace College Tournament.

Senior Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) and junior Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) recorded 10 kills each as Grove City cruised past St. Lawrence University in the opener, 30-15, 30-13, 30-18.  Junior Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) posted 37 assists, while junior Kirsten Pedersen (Santa Rosa, CA/Montgomery) and freshman Kate DiMarco (Slate Hill, NY/Minisink Valley) contributed 10 digs each.

The Lady Wolverines fell to host Baldwin-Wallace in the nightcap, 30-22, 30-20, 30-18.  Gardner and Summers led the way for GCC with 10 and eight kills, respectively.  Pedersen was credited with a team-high 13 digs and Denniston tallied 27 assists.

Grove City opens Saturday's play against Albion College at 9:00 a.m.
