
Lady Wolverines split at
B-W
BEREA, OH, September 8, 2001--The Lady Wolverine volleyball team finished 2-2 at
the 4th Annual Marcia French Memorial Invitational at Baldwin-Wallace College,
adding a three-game sweep over Albion College and a three-game loss to
Baldwin-Wallace on Saturday.
Grove City opened with a 30-16, 30-21, 30-23 win over Albion as junior Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) posted a team-high 13 kills and 20 digs. Senior Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) recorded nine kills, while junior Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) chipped in with 30 assists. Senior Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) and junior Kirsten Pedersen (Santa Rosa, CA/Montgomery) added 15 digs each.
The Lady Wolverines bowed out of the tournament with a grueling loss to eventual champion Baldwin-Wallace by scores of 30-24, 30-22, 31-29. Gardner tallied a team-best 14 kills, Denniston had 27 assists and Porter and Pedersen finished with 20 and 17 digs, respectively.
Porter represented Grove City on the All-Tournament Team.
