Lady Wolverines boost league mark to 4-0

WAYNESBURG, PA, September 27, 2001--In a rematch of last year's conference championship match, the Grove City College women's volleyball team defeated host Waynesburg College in three close games Thursday night, 32-30, 30-26, 30-27.

The victory extended the Lady Wolverines' winning streak to four matches and improved their record to 7-5 overall, 4-0 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.  The defending PAC champs cruised through the first half of their conference slate, winning 12 of 13 games. Waynesburg fell to 8-5 overall, 2-1 in the PAC. 

Senior Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) paced the team with 12 kills.  Senior Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) and junior Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) recorded 11 kills each.  Gardner and Porter posted 22 digs apiece, while Summers added a team-high seven blocks, including three solos.  Junior Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) finished with 46 assists, an average of 15.3 per game.

The win marked the 450th career victory for head coach Susan Roberts (450-236).  Roberts, who coached for two years at King College (TN) before coming to GCC in 1985, is 398-212 on the Lady Wolverine sideline.
