CMU defeats GCC in three

GROVE CITY, PA, October 12, 2001--Despite playing one of its crispest matches of the season, the Lady Wolverine volleyball team fell to regionally-ranked Carnegie Mellon in three close games Friday night, 30-26, 30-22, 31-29.

Grove City had a three-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 14-8 overall, while CMU upped its record to 17-4.

Senior Sarah Gardner (Mechanisburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) posted a team-high 13 kills and 21 digs for the Lady Wolverines, who last night won a five-set match at Washington & Jefferson.  Junior Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) recorded 29 assists, senior Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) added 15 digs and junior Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) contributed eight kills.

One week ago, CMU defeated the No. 1 team in the country, sweeping Washington University (MO) in three games.
