Waynesburg upsets GCC in four

GROVE CITY, PA, October 16, 2001--The Grove City College women's volleyball team was dealt its first league loss of the season Tuesday night as the visiting Waynesburg College Lady Yellow Jackets prevailed in four games at the College Arena.

The Lady Wolverines won the first game, 30-26, before dropping the next three, 30-28, 30-23, 30-27.

Junior Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) recorded a team-high 16 kills for Grove City, who fell to 14-9 overall and 7-1 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference.  Junior Kirsten Pedersen (Santa Rosa, CA/Montgomery) added 10 kills.  Junior Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) was credited with 37 assists, while senior Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg), this week's PAC player of the week, contributed a team-best 27 digs.  Senior Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) tallied 21 digs.

Waynesburg improved to 12-10 overall and 3-4 in the PAC.

Grove City clinched the top seed to the 2001 PAC Championship Tournament last week.  The Lady Wolverines entered last year's league tournament as the No. 1 seed at 7-1 and claimed their first PAC title since 1995.
