GCC volleyball reverses fortune with pair of sweeps

BRADFORD, PA, October 20, 2001--Senior Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg) recorded 25 kills and 16 blocks in two sweeps Saturday afternoon as Grove City reversed a three-game losing skid with wins over Pitt-Greensburg and tri-match host Pitt-Bradford.

Gardner posted 11 kills and 10 blocks, including seven solos, in Grove City's 30-18, 30-24, 30-12 victory over Pitt-Greensburg.  Junior Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) had a team-high 12 kills, while junior Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) checked in with 34 assists.  Senior Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) helped the winning cause with 12 digs.

The Lady Wolverines followed with a 30-24, 30-15, 30-21 win over Pitt-Bradford as Gardner paced the squad with 14 kills, 16 digs and six blocks.  Summers registered 13 kills, Denniston tallied 37 assists and junior Kirsten Pedersen (Santa Rosa, CA/Montgomery) contributed 15 digs.

Grove City, now 16-10 overall, will next host Allegheny on Senior/Parents' Day Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.
