GCC rallies past Allegheny on Senior Night

GROVE CITY, PA, October 23, 2001--It was an emotional night in more ways than one for three Lady Wolverines, who suited up for their final home match Tuesday night.

Seniors Sarah Gardner (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg), Julie Porter (Medina, OH/Highland) and Casey Engelbert (Warren, PA/Warren County Christian School) were honored prior to the non-league match against Allegheny College, then went out and led the Lady Wolverines to a five-set victory over the Lady Gators in front of over 300 fans at the College Arena.

Grove City rallied from two sets down to win their second five-game match of the season, 25-30, 22-30, 30-18, 30-18, 15-10.  Garnder and junior Katie Summers (Staunton, VA/Grace Christian) posted 20 kills each and junior Cara Denniston (Grove City, PA/Grove City) recorded 52 assists as the Lady Wolverines improved to 17-10 overall.  Junior Kirsten Pedersen (Santa Rosa, CA/Montgomery) keyed the comeback with a team-high 42 digs, while Gardner added 35 digs.

Allegheny dropped to 13-11 overall.

Grove City closes its regular season slate Wednesday night at Slippery Rock University.
