Lady Wolverines open with two wins at Oberlin 

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened the 2003 season with a pair of victories at the Oberlin Tournament Friday afternoon.

The Lady Wolverines (2-0) blitzed D'Youville in three games, 30-17, 30-11 and 30-18 in their first match Friday, then pulled out a 3-2 victory over Ohio Wesleyan. Grove City won 30-28, 25-30, 23-30, 30-25 and 15-10. 

Against D'Youville, junior Melissa Lawton (High Point, N.C./Wesley Christian) tallied 10 kills while senior Lisa Bodi (Springville, N.Y./Springville-Griffith Institute) posted nine kills, 11 digs and four serving aces. Sophomore setter Carly Denniston (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) racked up 29 assists and four aces. Freshman Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) collected seven blocks in her collegiate debut.

The Lady Wolverines then rallied from a 2-1 hole to knock off regional foe Ohio Wesleyan. Bodi posted a 14-kill, 19-dig outing while Roberts had 14 kills and a half-dozen blocks. Frosh Kelly Tinney (Ashtabula, Ohio/St. John and Paul) had nine kills and three aces. 

Denniston distributed 49 assists while Lawton had 18 digs. Senior Renee Allen (Verona, Pa./Penn Hills) recorded 15 digs.

Grove City resumes play at 9:30 Saturday morning against Lake Erie.
