Grove City splits at W&J, improves to 2-3 in league

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team split a pair of matches at Washington and Jefferson College's Henry Memorial Center Saturday. The Lady Wolverines (7-18, 2-3 PAC) defeated Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington and Jefferson 25-30, 30-27, 30-17, 30-20 but lost to Penn State Behrend by scores of 23-30, 30-24, 30-21 and 30-18.

Freshman Kelly Tinney (Ashtabula, Ohio/Sts. John and Paul) led Grove City against Washington and Jefferson with 14 kills and five blocks while senior Lisa Bodi (Springville, N.Y./Springville-Griffith Institute) collected 13 kills and 36 digs. 

Sophomore setter Carly Denniston (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) distributed 48 assists while junior Kate DiMarco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) had 21 digs. Freshman Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) added six blocks in the win.

Tinney recorded 11 kills and three blocks against Behrend while Bodi and Rachel Peterson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett) both had nine kills. Junior Melissa Lawton (High Point, N.C./Wesley Christian) added 18 digs while Bodi contributed 13 digs. Denniston had 34 assists while Roberts had three blocks.

Grove City visits Waynesburg Tuesday night in conference play.
