Grove City splits two at Oberlin Tournament
OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened the 2004 season Friday evening at the Oberlin College Tournament, going 1-1 in first-day action.
Grove City opened with a 21-30, 30-24, 30-22, 30-26 loss to Olivet (Mich.) but bounced back to sweep Pitt-Greensburg, 30-19, 30-24, 30-22.
Sophomore Kelly Tinney (Ashtabula, Ohio/Sts. John and Paul) led Grove City against Olivet with a 16-kill, 5-block effort. Sophomore Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) added 10 kills.
Sophomore Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) served five aces while senior Melissa Lawton (High Point, N.C./Wesley Christian Academy) had 23 digs. Sophomore setter Sarah Davison (Grove City, Pa./Penn Hills) distributed 39 assists.
Tinney and senior Kate DiMarco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) each recorded 13 kills against Pitt-Greensburg. Rossol served five more aces while DiMarco added 17 digs. Freshman Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added three blocks.
Grove City continues action in the Oberlin Tournament Saturday morning.
