Grove City finishes 3rd at Oberlin Tournament

OBERLIN, Ohio --  The Grove City College volleyball team placed third at the Oberlin Tournament Saturday, picking up a pair of wins against Oberlin and Bethany. Grove City swept the host Yeowomen 30-20, 30-10, 30-20, then earned third place with a 30-19, 30-21, 30-14 win over Bethany.

Sophomore Kelly Tinney (Ashtabula, Ohio/Sts. John and Paul) earned All-Tournament honors after compiling 56 kills over a four-match span. Tinney led Grove City (3-1) with 16 kills and five blocks against Oberlin while senior Kate DiMarco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) added 13 kills.

Sophomore setter Sarah Davison (Grove City, Pa./Penn Hills) compiled 33 assists in the win while senior Melissa Lawton (High Point, N.C./Wesley Christian) had 19 digs. Sophomore Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) chipped in 16 digs.

Tinney picked up 11 kills against Bethany while DiMarco and senior Rachel Peterson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett) both had nine kills. Sophomore Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) added eight kills. Davison distributed 41 assists while Lawton had a team-high 19 digs.

Grove City visits Mount Union Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in non-conference action.
