Grove City falls in five
MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team fell to 4-3 overall with a 3-2 loss at longtime non-conference rival Allegheny Tuesday night at the Wise Center. Allegheny pulled out a 30-28, 23-30, 30-20, 28-30, 15-12 win over Grove City in the Wolverines' first five-game match of 2004.
Sophomore Kelly Tinney (Ashtabula, Ohio/Sts. John and Paul) led Grove City with 24 kills while senior Rachel Peterson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett) added 18 kills. Sophomore setter Sarah Davison (Grove City, Pa./Penn Hills) distributed 56 assists and added 22 digs.
Senior libero Melissa Lawton (High Point, N.C./Wesley Christian Academy) recorded 35 digs while senior Kate DiMarco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) tallied 27 digs. Peterson and sophomore Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) each had 19 digs.
Sophomore Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) had a team-high three blocks.
Grove City will compete in the Case Western Reserve Tournament this Friday and Saturday.
