Wolverines 2-2 at CWRU Tournament

CLEVELAND --  The Grove City College volleyball team went 2-2 this weekend at the Case Western Reserve University Tournament.

Friday night, Grove City (6-5) dropped a 30-22, 25-30, 30-26, 30-22 decision to host Case Western but bounced back for a 30-23, 33-31, 30-18 sweep of Ursuline.

Saturday, the Wolverines swept Tri-State, 30-22, 30-16, 33-31 before suffering a four-game loss to Notre Dame College of Ohio, 21-30, 30-22, 30-27, 30-26.

Against Case Western, sophomore Kelly Tinney (Ashtabula, Ohio/Sts. John and Paul) led Grove City with 16 kills and three blocks while senior Rachel Peterson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett) added 14 kills. Senior Kate DiMarco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) added a dozen kills.

Sophomore setter Sarah Davison (Grove City, Pa./Penn Hills) had 51 assists while senior libero Melissa Lawton (High Point, N.C./Wesley Christian Academy) recorded 29 digs. DiMarco had a team-high 31 digs while Peterson added 23 digs. Sophomore Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) posted four blocks.

Tinney collected a team-high 19 kills and also served four aces against NAIA Ursuline while DiMarco added 16 kills and 19 digs. Lawton and Peterson each had 19 digs while sophomore Allison Cummings (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) had four blocks.

Against Tri-State, Tinney turned in a 9-kill, 4-block effort while Davison dished out 35 assists. DiMarco led Grove City with 20 digs while Lawton chipped in with 18 digs. In Saturday's second match, against Notre Dame, Tinney had 14 kills while Roberts turned in an 11-kill, 10-block effort. DiMarco added nine kills while Davison had 39 assists.

Sophomore Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) led the Wolverines with 26 digs while Peterson had 25.

The victories give 20th-year head coach Susan Roberts 498 wins in her career. In 22 years as a collegiate head coach, Roberts owns a 498-285 record, including a 446-261 mark at Grove City.

The Wolverines return to action Wednesday night at Hiram.
