Wolverines roll past Behrend

GROVE CITY, Pa. --  The Grove City College volleyball team improved to 7-10 Tuesday night with a 32-30, 27-30, 30-20, 30-23 victory over Penn State Behrend (7-8) at the Grove City College Arena.

The victory is the 499th career victory for head coach Susan Roberts. Roberts owns a career record of 499-290 in 22 seasons overall as a head coach. In 20 years at Grove City, Roberts is 447-266.

Freshman setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) set a new Grove City four-game record with a career-high 60 assists in the victory. Her 60 assists surpass the previous four-game mark of 55, set by Cara Denniston in 2001 against Johns Hopkins.

The 60 assists is the fifth-highest single-match total in Grove City history, trailing Jeannie Annan's 68 against Cortland State in 1995, Abbey Wengerd's 63 assists against John Carroll in 1999, Erin Mayne's 62-assist effort against Heidelberg in 1996 and Denniston's 61 against Washington and Jefferson in 1999.

Senior Rachel Peterson (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett) led Grove City Tuesday night with a 19-kill, 22-dig performance while sophomore Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) added 14 kills and five blocks. Senior Kate DiMarco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) had 29 digs while sophomore Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) added 25 digs.

Sophomore Kelly Tinney (Ashtabula, Ohio/Sts. John and Paul) served four aces. The victory snaps Grove City's six-match losing skid.

Grove City opens Presidents' Athletic Conference play Thursday night at home against Thiel. A victory would give Susan Roberts her 500th career victory.
