Grove City sweeps Bethany

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College volleyball team won its third straight match Tuesday night with a 30-27, 30-24, 30-24 sweep of Bethany in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at Hummel Field House.

Sophomore Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City), this week's PAC Player of the Week, led the Wolverines with 13 kills and five blocks. Sophomore Kelly Tinney (Ashtabula, Ohio/Sts. John and Paul) added seven kills while freshman Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) chipped in six kills.

Freshman setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) distributed 36 assists and added nine digs while senior Melissa Lawton (High Point, N.C./Wesley Christian) had a team-high 11 digs. Senior Kate DiMarco (Slate Hill, N.Y./Minisink Valley) served three aces while sophomore Allison Cummings (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) had five blocks.

Grove City (12-13, 5-3 PAC) moved ahead of Westminster (16-12, 4-3 PAC) into third place in the PAC, one game behind second-place Washington and Jefferson (14-14, 6-2 PAC). The top two teams earn byes into the semifinal round of the PAC Tournament, Nov. 5-6 at Waynesburg.

Grove City hosts Division II Slippery Rock Thursday night in non-conference action at the Grove City College Arena.
