Wolverines open season with two wins
OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened the 2005 season Friday afternoon by winning a pair of matches at the Oberlin Tournament. The Wolverines opened the two-day event by sweeping Bluffton, 30-28, 30-20, 30-22. Grove City (2-0) then rolled up a 30-17, 30-25, 30-8 triumph over Lake Erie in the nightcap.
Junior middle hitter Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) led Grove City against Bluffton, recording 15 kills. Sophomore setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) distributed 28 assists while junior libero Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) tallied 17 digs.
Against Lake Erie, Roberts recorded 10 kills while sophomore Katie Skinner (Bay Village, Ohio/Christian Community) added eight kills. Walsh had 26 assists and served three aces while Rossol collected 10 digs.
The Wolverines will close pool play against Ohio Wesleyan Saturday at 9 a.m.
