Grove City splits two matches at OWU
DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday afternoon at the Ohio Wesleyan University Bishop Invitational. Grove City (7-9) closed pool play with a 30-25, 30-21, 30-28 loss to Denison. However, Grove City recovered to earn a 30-18, 30-17, 30-15 victory over Lake Erie in the seventh-place match.
Junior Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) posted nine kills and five blocks against Denison while sophomore setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) had 28 assists. Junior Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) and sophomore Jennifer Plyler (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) both had a dozen digs.
Plyler recorded 11 kills to help lead Grove City's effort against Lake Erie while Roberts and junior Allison Cummings (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) each had 10 kills. Walsh recorded 36 assists and 12 digs while Rossol had a team-high 17 digs in the victory. Plyler added 13 digs while Roberts served seven aces.
The victory is the 750th in program history. Grove City now owns a 750-365-1 record in 33 years of intercollegiate competition.
Grove City will visit Waynesburg Tuesday night in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match.
