Wolverines split first two matches of 2006

DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened the 2006 season Friday night by going 1-1 at Ohio Wesleyan University's Bishop Invitational. Grove City swept Transylvania in its first match of the tournament, 30-23, 32-30, 30-22. However, the Wolverines fell to 1-1 with a five-game loss to host Ohio Wesleyan. Ohio Wesleyan rallied from a 2-1 deficit for a 30-23, 29-31, 25-30, 30-23, 15-5 win over Grove City.

Senior Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) and junior Heather Fraiz (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) each posted a dozen kills in the win over Transylvania. Roberts also had nine blocks while Fraiz recorded 22 digs. Junior setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) distributed 40 assists for Grove City (1-1).

Roberts tallied 16 kills against Ohio Wesleyan while Fraiz added nine kills. Roberts also had four blocks. Walsh recorded 38 assists while senior libero Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) had 21 digs.

Grove City will wrap up pool play Saturday afternoon against Lake Erie at 1 p.m.
