Grove City takes 3rd at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team placed third at the Westminster College Invitational Saturday afternoon at Buzz Ridl Gymnasium.

Grove City (7-3 overall) closed pool play with a 30-26, 30-26, 30-23 loss to Penn State Behrend. The Wolverines rebounded in the third place match, however, by sweeping Pitt-Bradford 30-23, 30-17, 30-8.

Junior Katie Skinner (Bay Village, Ohio/Christian Community) led Grove City against Behrend with eight kills. Junior Heather Fraiz (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) and sophomore Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) each had six kills. Junior setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) had 25 assists while senior Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) posted 16 digs. Fraiz added 14 digs.

In the third place match against Pitt-Bradford, Liberati recorded 10 kills and three blocks. Fraiz added eight kills and five serving aces while Walsh tallied 30 assists. Rossol served four aces.

Fraiz paced Grove City with 16 digs while junior Brooke Mincey (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) added 11 digs.

At 7-3, Grove City is off to its best start since 1998, when the Wolverines opened 11-3. Grove City hosts Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Bethany Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
