Grove City earns split at York Tournament

YORK, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team is now 9-4 overall after splitting a pair of matches Friday night at the York (Pa.) College Spartan Best Western Wingate INNVitational. Grove City opened the night with a four-game loss to Lebanon Valley, 31-29, 38-36, 20-31, 30-21.

However, the Wolverines bounced back in the nightcap for a 30-16, 27-30, 30-16, 30-19 win over Montclair State.

Junior setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) paced Grove City against Lebanon Valley with a career-high 62 assists. The 62 assists are the third-most in Grove City history. That figure is also the highest four-game match total in program history.

Junior Katie Skinner (Bay Village, Ohio/Christian Community) led Grove City with 16 kills while sophomore Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) added 15 kills. Junior Heather Fraiz (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) contributed 14 kills and a team-high 24 digs.

Sophomore Meghan Glenn (Clarion, Pa./Clarion) added 22 digs while senior Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) chalked up 20 digs. Junior Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) recorded eight blocks from her middle position.

In the nightcap, three Wolverines produced double-digit kill totals. Liberati led Grove City with 16 kills while Skinner and Fraiz had 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Walsh distributed 51 assists. Defensively, Rossol had 19 digs while Glenn added 18. Liberati collected seven blocks.

Grove City will play Susquehanna Saturday morning at 10 a.m. The Wolverines will close the tournament Saturday at 2 p.m. against Albright.
