Grove City wins No. 20 on Senior Night

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team closed the 2006 regular season Friday night with a 22-30, 30-18, 30-20, 27-30, 15-12 victory over visiting Thomas More in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match on Senior Night in the Grove City College Arena. The victory is Grove City's 20th of the season.

It is Grove City's first 20-win season since the 2001 team went 22-11. Grove City (20-10 overall) also closes PAC play with an 8-4 record.

Four Grove City players posted double-digit kill totals, led by sophomore Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) with 16 kills. Junior Heather Fraiz (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) posted 15 kills while junior Kate Skinner (Bay Village, Ohio/Christian Community) added 14 kills. Senior Carlie Roberts (Union City, Pa./Union City) tallied 13 kills for the Wolverines.

Junior setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) recorded 54 assists. Defensively, Roberts posted eight blocks while senior Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) had a team-leading 28 digs. Fraiz added 20 digs.

Roberts, Rossol and senior Allison Cummings (Zelienople, Pa./Seneca Valley) -- the team's tri-captains -- were honored prior to Friday night's match. It is Grove City's first ever win all-time against Thomas More.

Grove City will compete in a PAC Championship Tournament semifinal match next Friday night, Nov. 3 against Washington & Jefferson. The tournament will be hosted by the top seed.

Westminster currently leads the PAC with a 9-2 record and will host Thomas More (7-4 PAC) Saturday. Washington & Jefferson is second at 9-3.

If Westminster wins Saturday, the Lady Titans will host the tournament and Thomas More will be the No. 4 seed. Grove City would then play W&J in the 2-3 matchup. If Thomas More wins, W&J will host the tournament because the Presidents own a 2-0 head-to-head edge over Westminster. Thomas More would then join Grove City at 8-4. Thomas More would be the No. 3 seed based on a tie-breaker against Grove City.
