Wolverines take two at Bishop Invitational

DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened the 2007 season Friday night by securing a pair of victories at Ohio Wesleyan University's Bishop Invitational. Grove City began the night with a 30-8, 30-25, 30-14 victory over La Roche. In the Wolverines' nightcap, Grove City pulled out a five-game win over Oberlin, 30-27, 30-26, 25-30, 29-31, 15-9.

Junior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) registered 11 kills against La Roche while senior Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) added 10 kills. Senior Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) set 41 assists while senior Brooke Mincey (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) led the Grove City defense with 16 digs.

In the nightcap, senior Jennifer Plyler (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) led Grove City with a career-high 23 kills. Senior Kate Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) tallied 17 kills and 15 digs while Walsh distributed 51 assists. Walsh also had 11 digs. Sophomore Sara Quillen (Staunton, Va./Grace Christian) served four aces and Mincey recorded 26 digs.

Grove City will face Wilmington in pool play Saturday at 1 p.m.
