Grove City wins Bishop Invitational

DELAWARE, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team captured first place at Ohio Wesleyan University's Bishop Invitational Saturday evening with a 30-28, 25-30, 30-28, 30-21 victory over host Ohio Wesleyan in the championship match. Earlier Saturday, Grove City (4-0) advanced to the championship match with a 30-19, 30-25, 30-19 sweep of Wilmington in pool play.

Grove City is now 4-0 for the first time since 1985.

Senior Jennifer Plyler (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) earned All-Tournament Team honors after posting 24 total kills in Grove City's two victories Saturday. Plyler recorded 13 kills in the championship match. Junior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) set a new Grove City four-game match record with 26 kills against Ohio Wesleyan while senior Kate Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) posted 16 kills. Skinner also served a career-high four aces.

Senior setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) distributed 66 assists in the championship match. The 66 assists are the most by a Grove City setter in a four-game match. It is also the second-highest single-match assist total in Grove City history.

Defensively, senior Brooke Mincey (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) recorded 24 digs while Liberati had two blocks.

Skinner's 12-kill, 10-dig outing helped lead Grove City to a 3-0 sweep of Wilmington Saturday afternoon in pool play. Liberati added 11 kills and six blocks while Plyler also tallied 11 kills. Walsh chalked up 43 assists and 10 digs while Mincey had 22 digs.

Grove City returns to action next Friday and Saturday at the Penn State Behrend Invitational in Erie.
