Wolverines ousted in conference semis
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 30-26, 30-27, 26-30, 30-17 decision to second-seeded Thomas More in the semifinals of the 2007 Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at Westminster College's Memorial Field House Friday night. Grove City, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, is now 20-12.
Junior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) paced Grove City with 13 kills while senior Brittany Anderson (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) recorded a dozen kills. Senior Kate Skinner (Avon Lake, Ohio/Christian Community) added 11 kills for the Wolverines.
Senior setter Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) distributed 38 assists. Skinner and senior Jen Plyler (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) each served two aces.
Defensively, Skinner led Grove City with 27 digs while senior libero Brooke Mincey (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) added 26 digs. Plyler had 20 digs while Walsh contributed 15. Anderson recorded five blocks.
Thomas More will face top-seeded Westminster Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. in the PAC championship match. Westminster defeated No. 4 Washington & Jefferson, 3-1, in Friday night's first semifinal.
Grove City will await a possible berth in the ECAC South Division III Championship Tournament next week.
