Grove City earns AVCA Team Academic Award

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association recently honored the Grove City College volleyball team as a recipient of the AVCA Team Academic Award. The Team Academic Award is awarded to programs whose players achieve a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher during the 2006-2007 academic year. Grove City's 12 players combined to earn a 3.31 GPA during the 2006-07 academic year.

Grove City is one of 53 NCAA Division III programs to earn the Team Academic Award, which has been presented since 1993.

Several Grove City volleyball players earned individual recognition for their academic excellence throughout the 2006-07 academic year. Rising senior Heather Fraiz (Carmel, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit), rising junior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), recent graduate Emily Rossol (Waterville, Ohio/Toledo Christian) and rising senior Kim Walsh (Beaver, Pa./Beaver) all earned spots on the Presidents' Athletic Conference's Academic Honor Roll last fall.

Fraiz and Walsh both earned College Division Second Team Academic All-District from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and ESPN The Magazine last fall.

Grove City will open the 2007 season August 31-September 1 at Ohio Wesleyan University's Bishop Invitational.
