Grove City splits at Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team opened the 2008 season Friday by going 1-1 at Marietta College's River City Tournament. Grove City earned a 25-15, 25-17, 18-25, 28-26 win over Wooster in Friday's first match. The Wolverines dropped the nightcap to Bluffton, though, 25-14, 17-25, 14-25, 25-22, 15-11.

Senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) paced Grove City against Wooster with 17 kills. Sophomore Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) added 13 kills. Freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) dished out 37 assists in her collegiate debut.

Defensively, sophomore Becky Chapa (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) recorded a career-high 28 digs while classmate Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) picked up 22 digs.

Rasmussen tallied a career-high 14 kills against Bluffton while Liberati contributed 11 kills. Barry had 37 assists. Defensively, Rasmussen added 17 digs and five solo blocks. Budd chalked up 26 digs.

Grove City will play host Marietta Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Wolverines' second match will either be at noon or 2 p.m.
