Grove City splits at Marietta; Liberati named MVP

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Grove City College volleyball team is 2-2 after splitting two matches at Marietta College's River City Tournament Saturday. The Wolverines opened play by pulling out a 25-23, 18-25, 25-21, 18-25, 15-13) win over host Marietta Saturday morning. Grove City then closed the tournament with a 26-24, 21-25, 25-12, 25-20 loss to Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thiel in the tournament finale.

Senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) earned the tournament's Most Valuable Player award after accumulating 59 total kills in Grove City's four tournament matches.

Liberati paced Grove City with 16 kills in the win over Marietta. Sophomore Becky Chapa (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) added nine kills. Freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) recorded 39 assists.

Defensively, Chapa picked up 21 digs while sophomore Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) added 17 digs. Sophomore Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) also recorded 17 digs and a team-high five blocks. Liberati posted four blocks.

Liberati led Grove City with 15 kills against Thiel Saturday afternoon. Annie Barry set 31 assists. Sophomore Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) tallied 24 digs while Chapa chalked up 21 digs.

Grove City returns to action next Friday afternoon at the Ohio Wesleyan Tournament. Grove City will face Otterbein and Transylvania on the opening day of the tournament.
