Another split for Grove City

DELAWARE, Ohio ' The Grove City College volleyball team wrapped up its second weekend of play Saturday by splitting two matches at the Ohio Wesleyan University Bishop Invitational.

Grove City (4-4) opened play Saturday by dropping a five-game decision to Defiance, 21-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-17, 15-12. However, the Wolverines bounced back in their second match of the day to sweep host Ohio Wesleyan, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-13.

Senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) paced Grove City against Defiance by recording 20 kills. Liberati earned All-Tournament recognition.

Freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) distributed 40 assists in Saturday's opener. Sophomore Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) tallied 20 digs. Liberati and sophomore Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) both recorded four blocks.

Liberati collected 15 kills in the sweep over Ohio Wesleyan. She also served three aces. Barry tallied 31 assists.

Defensively, sophomore Becky Chapa (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) posted 14 digs while Budd had 12. Liberati and Rasmussen each had three blocks.

Grove City has now gone 1-1 in each of its four days of tournament play this season. Last weekend, Grove City went 2-2 overall at the Marietta College River City Tournament.

The Wolverines will host Penn State Behrend Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the 2008 home opener in the Grove City College Arena.
