Wolverines fall twice

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team is 4-7 overall after dropping a pair of matches Friday at Westminster College's "Volley Against Violence" Tournament in Memorial Field House.

Grove City opened the day with a 25-20, 25-12, 20-25, 17-25, 15-7 setback against regional rival Allegheny. In Friday's nightcap, the Wolverines fell to Muskingum in four sets, 23-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-16.

Senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) led Grove City with 17 kills against Allegheny while sophomore Becky Chapa (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) contributed 11 kills. Freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) tallied 44 assists.

Defensively, Chapa posted 20 digs while Liberati had four blocks.

Liberati again recorded 17 kills in Friday's second match. Sophomore Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) added nine kills while sophomore Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) accumulated eight kills. Annie Barry distributed 35 assists.

Sophomore Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) led the Wolverines with 28 digs while Chapa chalked up 20 digs. Rasmussen added 17 digs.

Grove City will face Penn State Behrend Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the second day of the tournament. The Wolverines will then play Capital at 4 p.m. in the finale.
