Grove City splits at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team went 1-1 Saturday in the second day of Westminster College's "Volley Against Violence" tournament at Memorial Field House. Grove City (5-8) opened play with a 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 25-15 triumph over Penn State Behrend.

In Saturday's second match, Grove City dropped a hard-fought 22-25, 25-21, 25-11, 22-25, 15-12 decision to Capital University.

Senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) paced Grove City with 18 kills against Penn State Behrend while sophomore Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) tallied nine kills. Sophomores Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and Becky Chapa (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) both had seven kills.

Freshman setter Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) distributed 39 assists. Defensively, Rasmussed recorded 19 digs while sophomore libero Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) chalked up 17 digs. Liberati had four blocks. Five days ago, Behrend earned a four-set victory at Grove City.

Liberati (19), Chapa (11) and Rasmussen (11) all reached double-digits in kills against Capital. Annie Barry tallied 45 assists. Chapa added 20 digs while Rasmussen contributed a dozen digs and three blocks. Liberati earned All-Tournament honors for her performance. It is her third All-Tournament citation in as many weeks.

Grove City will host Saint Vincent Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Grove City College Arena.
