Wolverines rally past W&J in 5

WASHINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College volleyball team rallied for a 3-2 victory over host Washington & Jefferson Thursday night in a Presidents' Athletic Conference match at the Henry Memorial Center. W&J (13-10, 9-4 PAC) won the first two games 25-20 and 25-21. However, Grove City captured the final three games, 28-26, 25-22 and 16-14. It is the Wolverines' third straight victory at W&J as well as Grove City's third consecutive win overall.

Senior Natalie Liberati (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) led a balanced Grove City effort with 11 kills Thursday night. Freshman Anna McCurdy (Guys Mills, Pa./Maplewood) tallied 10 kills while sophomores Jodi Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and Inge Rasmussen (Darnestown, Md./Poolesville) both had eight kills each. Freshman Annie Barry (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) collected 36 assists while sophomore Kim Budd (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) served a career-high five aces.

Defensively, Rasmussen recorded 17 digs while McCurdy collected 14 digs. Annie Barry added 11 digs. Jodi Barry set a new career high with five blocks while McCurdy and Rasmussen each had four blocks. Liberati chipped in with three blocks for the Wolverines (10-18, 4-6 PAC).

Washington & Jefferson defeated Grove City 25-22, 18-25, 25-22, 25-19 September 20 in Grove City.

Grove City head coach Susan Roberts now has 686 total victories as a head coach at Grove City. She currently has 519 wins as head volleyball coach since taking over the program in 1985. Roberts also compiled 101 wins as head women's basketball coach from 1985-93 and 66 wins as softball coach from 1994-98. Jim Longnecker owns the Grove City record for total coaching wins with 687. Longnecker compiled a 687-177-1 record from 1957-97 as head men's swimming and diving coach, men's cross country coach and men's track and field coach.

Grove City will host Thomas More Saturday at 11 a.m. in conference action.
